Hero Motors Hits 20% Upper Circuit for Third Straight Session; Stock Up ~73% From Listing Price

After a discounted debut on 23 September, the auto-component maker has been locked at the 20% upper band in every session since listing

 

Shares of Hero Motors Ltd hit the 20% upper circuit for the third consecutive trading session on Friday, 25 September, touching ₹141.69 on the NSE. At that level, the company's market capitalisation stood at ₹6,435.78 crore. Some outlets reported the day's high at ₹141.85; the exchange attribution of that figure differs between sources and should be confirmed against NSE/BSE data.

 

The stock has now risen about 72.8% from its NSE listing price of ₹82 and 68.67% from its IPO price of ₹84.

 

A muted debut, then three circuits

 

Hero Motors listed on Wednesday, 23 September, at ₹82 on the NSE, a 2.38% discount to the issue price. On the BSE, it opened at ₹82.10, a 2.26% discount. Buying interest emerged soon after listing and the stock closed the first session locked at the 20% upper band of ₹98.40 on the NSE.

 

On Thursday, 24 September, the stock hit another 20% upper circuit at ₹118.08 on the NSE, despite a sharply weaker broader market. Media reports cited very heavy volumes that day, including a large block transaction estimated at about 2.4 crore shares. On Friday, it opened at ₹130 before again hitting the upper band.

The ₹1,000-crore book-built issue was open from 16 to 18 September 2026 in a price band of ₹79–84 per share, with a minimum lot of 178 shares. It comprised a fresh issue of 7.14 crore shares worth ₹600 crore and an offer-for-sale of 4.76 crore shares worth ₹400 crore by promoters OP Munjal Holdings and Hero Cycles.

 

The issue was subscribed 6.66 times overall, attracting bids for 58.97 crore shares against 8.86 crore on offer. Non-institutional investors subscribed 9.86 times, retail investors 8.23 times and qualified institutional buyers 1.49 times. Of the fresh proceeds, ₹190 crore is earmarked for debt repayment and ₹200 crore for equipment to expand capacity at its Uttar Pradesh facility. Promoter holding falls from 85.57% to 61.63% post-issue.

 

Business and financials

 

Hero Motors designs and manufactures engineered powertrain solutions for global OEMs across the US, Europe, India and ASEAN, with customers including BMW, Ducati, Enviolo, Formula Motorsport and Hummingbird EV. It operates two segments, Powertrain Solutions (53.67% of FY26 revenue) and Alloys & Metallics (46.33%), from six manufacturing facilities in India, the UK and Thailand.

 

According to SBI Securities, the company delivered revenue, EBITDA and PAT CAGR of 5.7%, 34.3% and 55.5% respectively over FY24–FY26. FY26 revenue from operations was ₹1,188.35 crore and profit after tax ₹41.17 crore.
